Do I need experience or some minimum level of fitness?

How is CrossFit different from a typical gym?

With CrossFit, every class you come to will have a qualified coach who will guide you through a dynamic warm-up, skill work, and WOD (workout of the day) with the appropriate modifications, and cool down.  Your coach will ensure you are doing movements safely and efficiently while motivating you through the workout.

You will never have to guess what you are doing, or wonder which exercises to do on a given day.  Our programming and workouts are unique, constantly varied and fun! So you will never get bored and will continually improve your individual fitness level.

CrossFit’s movements and methods are based upon functional movements that will help you in everyday life.  CrossFit Aptos is a community.  Members interact with one another, encourage each other and sweat together through the workout.

Are there different classes for different fitness levels?

No! Each class is for beginners to competitive athletes to anyone in between.  Our coaches modify the workout to meet each individuals needs within the class. You are pushed and encouraged based on your current level of fitness. We want you to give your personal best effort during the workout.

What type of results can I expect?

Consistency is the key to seeing results.  We encourage new athletes to come to class at least three times a week.  This will help you to learn and improve upon the movements that we do as well as see results faster.  As you incorporate CrossFit into your weekly lifestyle you will start to see improvements such as endurance, strength, stamina, flexibility, agility and body composition.  Changing your nutritional habits will also help you to gain your desired results.  Other lifestyle improvements such as confidence, energy level, mental health, improved sleep and overall quality of life may also be enhanced.  Many people are shocked at their improvements no matter what background they come from.  Working hard to continually improve our own physical capacity will bring results.

Will CrossFit make me big and bulky?

This is a common question we hear particularly from female clients.  The answer is NO! You will likely see your musculature and physique as being more defined, but doing CrossFit does not make you “bulky”.  You have to keep in mind that the female bodies of CrossFit that you see in competition are training consistently for the sport of fitness.  They are doing far more than a 1 hour class a few times a week.  As you improve your diet and consistently attend classes your body composition will change.  But there are several other factors that affect the way you look physically.  Those being genetics, age, environment,  previous physical adaptations from your sport (ie: endurance runner vs. powerlifter vs. dancer), how often you train and hobbies/habits.

What type of exercises do you do?

CrossFit utilizes a variety of exercises to optimize your fitness.  Through CrossFit you will learn…..

  • Squats: air squat, front squat, back squat, overhead squat
  • Presses: shoulder press, push press, push jerk
  • Deads: deadlift, sumo deadlift high pull, med-ball clean
  • Olympic Lifts: clean and jerk, snatch
  • Gymnastics: pull-up, push-up, sit-up, burpee, ring dip, muscle-up, handstand, L-sits etc..
  • Other common movements: thruster, wallball, kettlebell swing, rowing, box jump, jumprope.

Each day there will be a new workout (WOD) compromised of one to several of the exercises you see above.

What if I have no time?

The great thing about CrossFit is that each class if only 1 hour long.  Within that time your actual workout may vary from 3 minutes to 40 minutes depending on the stimulus on that day.  Your results will come from your intensity within the workout, no need to spend 2 hours at the gym.  We all have busy lives with obligations to our families and careers, but committing to 1 hr a day 3-5 times a week will dramatically improve your overall health, mental status and overall quality of life. Plus we all need social wellness, come laugh and play with some other fun adults.  Remember we have someone to watch your children Mon, Wed, Sat am at 9:30am and Tues, Thurs at 4:30pm so no more excuses!
