Women’s basketball playoffs for city of Watsonville 2015.
My girls and I are watching Betsy running the court. About 5 minutes in I notice my wife holding her head and looking dazed or lost, next that lost feeling turned into a tremendous head ache. As I watch my wife  holding her head looking around I send my daughter Becca to check on her to see if she was ok, I watched from across the court as Betsy and my daughter start waiving me over. At this point my wife is crying from the pain and is having trouble walking. Immediately I help her out to our car and head over to Watsonville ER. Once we arrived we were quickly attended and they did a CT scan.
We got the horrible news that the cause was a hemorrhagic stroke caused by a blood vessel bursting near her brain stem. She was quickly transferred  to Stanford neurology center where we were fortunate enough to have the best doctors caring for her. Scary part was not knowing the outcome of the situation. As harsh as it seems they said there were 3 outcomes to this situation.
One being death, 2 being a vegetable or 3 being perfectly normal. Thankfully 3 was the outcome for her. With a slow recovery taking a good half a year she did better and better every day. During her recovery the hardest part was getting her to chill out, she is a crazy go getter and didn’t like being told not to do things. She managed to still get her Master’s Degree from San Jose State in the six month recovery. Now after 2 years since she had her stroke Crossfit has been such a wonderful confidence booster for her since the hardest part of the recovery was her trying to push against the thought of it happening again. I’m very proud of her and what she has accomplished. ENJOY YOUR FAMILY!
